Family in Town!!!

Hurray...the family is in town!  My sister and her three kids are here and staying at my house.  :)  I didn't get most of the crafts done that I had intended...but I got the fireplace and the kitchen painted...yeah!  The fireplace looks awesome by the way.  :)
I got one skylight panel sewn...and hopefully will get the other one done today.  But with family around I may not want to waste anytime not visiting.  :)  But then again...my niece is in 4H and might just be a better sewer than myself...so maybe I can get her to help me out a bit.  She's so cute, she made the most darling little dress for Lillian.  Won second prize at the fair too.  What a cutie. :)

Paint...paint...paint

Hallway...kitchen....and fireplace all successfully primed and ready for paint tomorrow.  Whew! I'm exhausted!!!  Good thing we've got ice cream and the hubby rented a good movie to chill out and watch tonight.  Couple's Retreat...it looks pretty funny.  Admittedly...it's actually the second time we've rented it, but last time we were so busy with the hooligans...aka kids...that we had to return it before we got a chance to watch it.  Typical!  Determined to actually watch it this time {if I can stay awake!} ;)

Starting to go through withdrawals....

Again...a full day without crafts!  What a bummer!  I've finalized my decision about the skylight curtains...I'm going with the white eyelet fabric...solid...not patches of patterned fabric like I was considering.  And...I bought the rollers to start painting...haven't actually started...but I'm a step closer.  Found some really cute apron patterns and a GREAT new idea for the kids at the Burn Center!!!  I went sleepless again last night thinking of how great this one is!!!  I found a pattern for kids hospital gowns!  So...for those little guys who are stuck in the hospital for long periods of time, how great would that be to have their own cute little gown that might help to cheer them up a bit.  AND once my blog get's all HUGE... :)....I'd love to do something where I can ask everyone else to send in their best kiddie hospital gown designs and get to bring a whole PILE of gowns for the kiddos!  Awesome!!  I can't wait...I can't wait to do a lot of things...and yet...I still haven't done much so far.  :(  Time, it all takes time, and I'll get there.  I've just got to keep telling myself that.  :)

Today...no followers...just talking to myself here....
Tomorrow...hundreds!!!  (ha ha ha)  :)

So, I've pretty much accomplished NOTHING today!!  Nothing crafty at least.

I put Lillian's blinds back up in her room (they'd been laying on the floor since I took them down to paint a couple weeks ago).  I finished taping the hallway and taking off all of the outlet covers so that I can primer tomorrow and paint this weekend before my sister get's here.  I was GOING to sew new curtains for the playroom skylights, but changed my mind on the fabric...so I've got the new one pinned up, testing it out to make sure I like it.

And...I've cared for, fed and played with three kids all day...I guess maybe that's enough.  And who knows...the nights still young, and I've been eye-ing my sewing area for the last hour, so I think I'm going to go make some progress on my quilt.

Oh!  And I think I decided today that I'm going to make matching aprons for my daughter and her two cousins who are coming to visit.  They get here Tuesday...so maybe I should spend some time figuring that out (considering I've never made an apron before).  :)

Exciting stuff.  Better get to it.

Obsessed....much???!?!

Okay, so I HAVE to stop reading other people's blogs or I'm never going to do anything of my own!!!  :)  I have been thoroughly inspired and am now going to get to it!  Back to business...stop gushing over everyone elses' accomplishments and do some 'accomplishing' of my own.  :)

Re-purposed Quilting

When I first started asking my mom questions about quilting, she told me how in the old days quilting was just a way to make a new blanket/quilt out of old blankets that were no longer usable.  They didn't use new batting from the local hobby shop to fill their quilts, they used old blankets!!  How resourceful, right?

That's stuck with me since I heard it, and have not been able to get the thought out of my head.  How amazing to turn an old blanket into something wonderful again.  I love it!  Old into new...right up my alley.

So how can I use that?  Would other people WANT a quilt made from used blankets?  I mean, ~I~ would!  But maybe others wouldn't.

I've got some ideas rolling around in my head, but maybe I'll hold off on laying them down until I have some more info.  See if used quilts are appealing to anyone else.  :)

But I'm excited, I think I'm on to something here, and I can't wait to piece it all together.

BLOG NAME DILEMMA

So I thought I was being pretty original here in thinking up names for my blog...and eventual website/business.  But EVERYTHING is already taken!  .  What the heck!??!  I'm going to end up with either something weird and completely boring...or blandly unoriginal.  Darnit!!

New Photos!!

Okay...so here are some pics of the quilt I'm working on.  It's a bit...what's the word....beginner-ish...but hey, I'm a beginner...so I guess that's okay! :)
It's been a couple of days. The weekends are always pretty busy. And I've been working diligently on my quilt. I'm about 2/3 of the way into sewing my strips. Yay! And then I'll get to sew them all together and figure out how to do the batting/backing and quilting....that should be the interesting part. ;)

Tomorrow is Lilly's ballet class and I'd really like to make her a new tutu...my first attempt last week was pretty shabby looking. But I'd really like to buy the tulle that comes on a spool first, that would make cutting it SO much easier. Then again there's a laundry list of things I want to buy that would make life easier....and if I waited until I can afford all of those things...I'd never accomplish anything!! Guess I'll be making the tutu out of my yardage. Oh well, I love a challenge.

Babies crying...better go. :)

Just added an id photo. My daughter is SO much cuter than I am, so I chose a close-up she took of herself. She LOVES using the camera....she takes a million random pictures of everything she sees, and the pictures are actually pretty good.

~Adorable!!~ :)

On my way!

So I did it. I started cutting out squares to start my very first quilt!!! HURRAY!

It's going to be far from perfect...{I've already cut some of the squares the wrong size and decided to use them anyways}....but it's going to get done. :)

I've decided it will be for my daughter for her new twin bed. It's a mix of all of the different girlie fabrics I have lying around. And the backing is going to be a piece I got in a box of randoms from my mother. {That's whats defining the size of the quilt}.

Today I will look at batting, and I'm hoping it's not going to be too expensive. If I could make an entire quilt with stuff I already have and only spend a few dollars on the batting, that would be amazing!

Can't wait to finish cutting out pieces and get started sewing!!!!

YAY YAY YAY!!! :)

I've GOT to start quilting!!

So the whole point of getting on here is that I am EXTREMELY anxious to try my hand at quilting. I only found this whole "blog" stuff a few days ago, and since then I've been OBSESSED with reading and looking at other people's great ideas and quilting!

Jealous much? ABSOLUTELY!!!

One of the blogs was a woman with kids making various projects...speaking the lingo...she was totally "in" the know about everything quilting. So I looked at her profile info.......27 years old!!! That's me! I'm SO behind the times!

Besides being a completely off-limits pastry I didn't even know what a 'jelly roll' was until starting to read all of these blogs!!

I've got some major catching up to do!~ My biggest dream is start my very own business, most likely doing crafts...sewing, crochet...etc. Now seeing how talented all of these other women are, I feel completely out of my league...embarrassed that I've even called myself "crafty". I mean really...I don't even know what a jelly roll is!!?!?

HELP!

Breakfast over...and another post? Couldn't have been anything THAT exciting happened during breakfast to necessitate another post!?!!? Ahh...but yes...nothing is ever boring with these little ones. I was going to attempt to do some dishes, but of course the kids are all finished eating and needed help getting down, so I let Matthew (the 18mo old) down, and take Lillian (my 3 1/2 yo) to the potty. Everything is going fine, until Matthew runs in to show me the knife he's found in the dishwasher...excitedly shouting HIYA-HIYA (too much Kung Fu Panda). And of course when I go to take it from him, he turns to run. Thankfully I got it from him, and no one got hurt...except maybe my nerves...they've been on the fritz lately anyways.

My first Post!

So...This is my first post. I've got three kids to care for and everyone is sick, great day to start blogging. Kids just all woke up so there's breakfast to be made. Guess this will have to do for now....More exciting blogs to come. :)
